Do candles expire? If yes, what happens to them?
Some websites say that candles expire... and so if they do, what happens? Do they still burn? And how long do they normally last? And is it the same with all candles? (Soy, wax... tealights vs votives..etc.)
No, candles do not expire. They will always burn. I was given 35 year old candles when we broke up my mom's housekeeping several years ago, and they were fine for Christmas dinner. If a candle was non-drip when it was new, it'll still be non-drip. Aging doesn't change that.
However, candles in containers may shrink a little from the inner walls due to evaporation of water and solvents in the paraffin, beeswax or gel. Their scent (if any) may vanish over time, or become very strong. But you can still burn them just fine. Frankly, I think the "candles expire" theory is a ploy to get people to buy more candles.
