Anyone have a pet grasshopper that has laid eggs?
Our grasshopper laid eggs April 11th, probably about 50 of them. If you have had a grasshopper lay eggs before, can you share any tips for making sure at least some of the eggs will hatch? I know the temperature should be about 30 degrees Celsius, and it should take about a month at the right temperature. But we read that the grasshopper is supposed to mix the white foamy glue surrounding the eggs with dirt to form a hard pod around the eggs to incubate them. Our grasshopper did not do that, and within a couple days the white foam had evaporated. Now our eggs (which look like yellow grains of rice), look a little shriveled. Do they need moisture? Can they survive without the pod? What if we just dampen the soil they are in? (They are in a container inside with soil.) We don't want it too wet, though, in case mold might grow. Any ideas, especially from anyone with experience with this?
