does lengthening golf clubs one inch make a significant difference?
I am a low handicaper and am going to lengthen my clubs because i like the comfortability in terms of posture. Also the extra length helps me generate greater club head speed. So my question is if one inch will be sufficient or should I opt for more?
Get fitted wrist to ground. If you're extending your shaft and not necessarily needing it secondary to fittings you'll find you will need to stand a bit further away from the ball at address and this will take some time to get used to.
Adding length to the shaft and speed to the swing will add distance, but it will not allow the golfer to hit the ball like Tiger Woods or other top pros. A golfer who has just installed longer shafts on his club can expect an 10 to 15 percent increase in distance.
The longer the swing, the more that can go wrong for the golfer. While the swing with the longer shaft should result in more distance, the shot may be more difficult for the golfer to control. At the very least, it will take some getting used to. Take your longer-shafted clubs to the driving range and hit with them for about 10 days to two weeks in order to get accustomed to the feel and the impact in order to remain an accurate hitter.
If your wedges are being lengthened as well realized that your angle of impact will change and will not be as sharp/acute which may impede you ability to get your ball to check up and get good greenside control.
Some feel lengthening your club slows your club head speed (more club to get around), which physic's wise makes sense. Perhaps using a lighter longer shaft with appropriate flex/torque might make up the difference.
One inch can make a difference, two significant. If you extend more than two get new shafts in lieu of extensions.
