Help- painted turtle aquariam size?
I've had a painted turtle for a while and I feel as if he's being abused by being stuffed in a tiny tank.
For an eastern painted turtle with about a three inch long shell, how big of a tank will he need? Since I got him I've been asking my parents for a bigger tank but the answer is always "no" because according to them, he's just a stupid little turtle :
Because of that, he's in a 10 gallon tank. I found a thick heavy duty tote near the pool outside that would probably equal an 80 gallon aquariam (I measured it) and even that's a no. I can't even buy anything for him with my own money.
How long do you think he can last in that tank? I've had him a year, and I just don't feel right having him in that little thing.
My mom says if I even bring up the idea of him having a bigger tank again, she's going to get rid of him. (!)
And by get rid of him I mean she's going to set him loose in the backyard.
The bare minimum for a single turtle is 10 gallons per inch of shell, 30 gallons, in this instance. You can, however, "cheat" by using something broad and low, like a wading pool. Sorry to hear about your mother's attitude. You make me feel lucky by comparison.
