What should I do about a bad Christmas gift?

My mother-in-law got our kids luggage for Christmas...it's VERY nice and the kids do need new luggage for camp, vacations, etc. However, the pieces have a definitely feminine pattern on them. My stepdaughter loves hers, but my sons are not as thrilled. They really don't want to use "girlie-looking" luggage, especially at camp and overnights with their buddies. So....do I tell them to suck it up and be secure in their masculinity--who cares about the luggage's girlie print OR do I risk offending my mother-in-law by asking her where she got the luggage so I can exchange the boys' pieces for something solid-colored?

I would buy some paint, and paint over the girly stuff. Make it into a craft project with the kids, allow them to pick out colors. Therefore you can't lie to you MIL and the kids get to have some fun!
