Someone ruined my leather couch...now what? Anyone know about reupholstering?
Someone who was helping move a piece of furniture for me decided it would be smart to not tie it down at all and go 70 miles an hour ...my couch flew out the back and they showed up at my door with it....parts of the leather is shredded and batting is coming out. It's analine dyed leather - large pieces and very soft, it has a few baseball stitch seams around the edges of the furniture where the stitching burst from the impact. What should I look at doing? Completely reupholster? Toss and not have a couch bc it's not worth the money? Should a good reupholster expert be able to salvage the remaining unhurt leather since the color is black and not a weird color? I'll call some places later, but I try to get some info from the public so I don't get taken. Thanks.
I'd ask the person for a reimbursement for the couch. They assumed the care and risk of moving your furniture and chose to not take proper precautions. You can actually sue them in small claims court for the cost of replacing or repairing your furniture.
Otherwise, seek out a reputable upholstery shop and ask for estimates on the damages and see if the person will pay for the repairs.
Its the honorable thing to do since they damaged your goods.
