Locking Strap

Need a way to keep my toddler out of the kitchen cabinets! Help!!?
My daughter gets into all of the kitchen cabinets. I don't want to use the safety locks that require you to drill them into the cabinets because I rent my apartment. I was wondering how the Adjustable locking strap works? It sticks to the cabinets on the outside. The cabinets are older wood that is stained. I am worried that it will ruin the finish. Does anyone have any experience with these or have any other ideas?
P.S. the handles are not close together so you can't just loop a lock through them.

As I stated above- The handles are not close together. I can not tie them or bungy them in anyway.
And if I could put a baby gate up I wouldn't be asking this question...
My mother used to use Cabinet safety latches when i was little.
In my opinion, it's the best way to keep little ones out of the cabinets. x3
