Is my power socket exhausted? It hissed & then stopped working, now it's working again.?
What can I do about it?
I have 2 power sockets on my wall. Both of them are connected to power boards which each have 4 sockets fulled with plugs to laptop, speakers, light, cd player, heater etc.
Sometimes the 2 main power sockets make hissing sounds. Last week one made a "pop" sound then stopped working. It was working again the next day.
Am I overusing the 2 power sockets on my wall by having 8 electrical things connected to them?
If I used a power board that had SWITCHES for each electrical thing, would this save power and give my 2 wall sockets a bit of a break?

The hissing is a loose connection inside the socket. The sound you hear is the arcing between 2 points trying to remain in contact and keeping the current flowing. Hard to say wether it is a wire not connected to the socket or the receptacle is just worn and needs to be replaced. Either way stop using them, shut off the circuit and have them checked out because this is the beginning of an electrical fire!!!

Inductively coupled connectors. $69 AC coupled interconnects show promise to enable multi-gigabit/second data rates between high pin count IC's within a multi-chip module, while achieving significant power savings as well [3]. AC Coupling can be realized with planar inductive or capacitive elements. Inductive coupling offers many degrees of freedom for system design by varying geometric parameters to tune parasitic elements in the model, such as: the crossover capacitance between the spirals, the magnetic coupling coefficient, winding resistance, inductance ratio and impedance terminations. So far, inductively coupled interconnects have mainly shown potential for multi-Gbps signaling only in level 1 interconnections, i.e. direct chip to chip communication and 3D IC's. Multi-Gbps pulse signaling is demonstrated with inductively coupled interconnects across packaging interfaces in this dissertation. This shows feasibility of realizing sub-mm pitch, true Zero Insertion Force (ZIF) surface mount connectors and sockets (i.e. level 2 and level 3 interconnections). Inductors are fabricated on two opposing surfaces, e.g. the faces of a connector or socket. When mated, they form a transformer, which is used to carry signals through the mated interface. The main advantage of building a separable connection this way, is that it is possible to achieve a high density with a simple mechanical structure.
