How much does it cost to get a full set of Mechanic Tools?
My friend and I are in college now and graduating in a couple of years and are thinking of opening up a garage. I could individually find all the tools sure but that would take sometime which I do have, this is just for a rough estimate really. I am running more of the business side to the whole operation. Any ideas on a cost? We are in the U.S
Keep about 50K in mind. This should include shop equiment and your own set of tools. And buying those prepackaged master tool sets is dumb. Theyre a general purpose set, and will always have many tools you dont/wont ever need and not have alot of tools youll need all the time. But its all subjective...what are you gonna work on? will you really need four post lifts when you first open up? lot of factors to consider. And btw, not that your queston even broached the subject, but fuel injection is a great thing and 400 hp can be made out of a 5.3L chevy(about 320 cubic inches) and it will still be more streetable and last longer than a carbuerated 350. And the 400 horses can be acheived at a lower cost with less invasive work...so think about that old timer. Some of us youngsters know a few things too...
