Finding America $9.99 For Jim and Rose Singhose, any day they are riding their Harley Davidson motorcycles is a good day. Since 1998, they have logged more than 100,000 miles riding cross-country on their bikes. In this, her second book, author Rose Singhose narrates the couple s journey from their home near Cottage Grove, Oregon, to Tybee Island, Georgia, and back again in the summer of 2002. Follow Rose and Jim as they leave their home the morning of June 29, 2002, destined to attend the kick-off party July 19 in Atlanta, Georgia, for Harley Davidson s 100th birthday. French Drummers: Pierre Moerlen, Frank Margerin, Manu Katch , Matthieu Lechevalier, Bernard Minet, Jean-Lou Kalinowski, Didier Almouzni $8.59 Purchase includes free access to book updates online and a free trial membership in the publisher's book club where you can select from more than a million books without charge. Not illustrated. Excerpt: Pierre Moerlen, born in Colmar (Haut-Rhin) on October 23 1952 and deceased in Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines (near Strasbourg) on May 3, 2005 was a French drummer and percussionist, best known for his work with Gong and Mike Oldfield. Pierre Moerlen was born in Colmar (Haut-Rhin) on 23 October 1952, third of five children. His father Maurice Moerlen was a famous organist (one of his teachers was Maurice Duruflé) and his mother was a music teacher. All five Moerlen children learned music with their parents and all became musicians. Pierre's younger brother, Benoît Moerlen, is also a percussionist (he worked also with Gong and Oldfield). Pierre left Colmar for Strasbourg to learn percussions with Jean Batigne, founder of Les Percussions de Strasbourg. He was also member of two rock and rock-jazz bands, including Asthme Congelateur (with included future Magma guitarist Gabriel Fédérow), whose most notable performance was the opening slot at the Seloncourt Festival in September 1972, headlined by Ange, Genesis and Robert Wyatt's Matching Mole. In January 1973, Pierre joined Daevid Allen's Gong, debuting on the Angel's Egg album. In June 1973 he was asked by Virgin's boss Richard Branson to play percussion with Mike Oldfield for the premiere of Tubular Bells, to replace the incapacitated Robert Wyatt. Steve Hillage, guitar player of Gong, also took part. Between 1975 and 1987, beginning with Ommadawn, Pierre would be Oldfield's percussionist of choice for his albums and his tours. Pierre left and returned to Gong several times to tour with the Percussions de Strasbourg (he created with them Musik im Bauch by Karlheinz Stockhausen and Hiérophonie V by Yoshihisa Taïra at Festival international d'art contemporain de Royan, 1975), and |

Lilies That Fester $6.99 When Flower Shop owner Bretta Solomon leaves her hometown of River City, Missouri, and heads for a florist convention in Branson, she's surprised to find a letter from Vincent and Mabel McDuffy slipped under her hotel room door, begging for help. The McDuffys seem to know of Bretta's success as an amateur sleuth around River City, and that, coupled with their admiration for Bretta's late husband, a police officer, has inspired them to ask Bretta to find out what happened to their daughter, who died of a heart attack a few months ago. The trouble is, Bretta can't find the McDuffys-after leaving her several messages at the hotel, they seem to have vanished. And although she's curious to track them down and find out exactly what they want her to do, she's got her hands full already running the design contest at the annual florist convention, coping with back-stabbing competitors and suspicious colleagues. Once again, Janis Harrison's likable and enterprising sleuth, Bretta Solomon, unearths a murderer in the unlikeliest of places. Combining a traditional puzzle with a delightful gardening backdrop, this charming mystery distinguishes a series that continues to bloom. Author Biography: With the Bretta Solomon series, which includes Roots of Murder and Murder Sets Seed, Janis Harrison has combined her career as a florist with her love of writing. She and her husband live near Windsor, Missouri, where they operate their own greenhouse business. |
