My dog has a aural hematoma.. Can I drain it?
My dog is 12 years old and part Lab. My dog has had this once before and the pillow ear is back. I was wondering can I put it with a needle to release the blood? I hate to bring her back to the Vet due to its expensive and she was just there not even 6 months ago and hates it there.
You really ought to take her to the Vet to have it drained.
It's not wise to meddle with it yourself. This sort of thing has to be done under the strictest hygenic conditions with a sterilised needle.
At this age dogs can get a recurrence of these haematomas
and may have to have them drained at regular intervals. The Vet should be the person to do this because the dog may need a couple of sutures on the ear flap.
If you do it yourself without the proper knowledge it could result in a haemorrhage.
Please leave it to the Professionals if you care for your dog.
