Ideal for Skyrim and other things, what PC should I buy?

I am looking to purchase a desktop PC at around $600 USD, typically from Amazon, ideal for long usability and great processing power. I could do up to $800. The kind of computer to run a game like Skyrim smoothly, but to also be versatile for other things such as watching films, browsing the Internet, etc. and capable of still running smoothly after hours with multiple programs.

I can see RAM being a huge factor. As for graphics cards, something around 1GB memory would be great. An RW DVD player as well. The hard drive space is not too important. For the OS I'm looking at Windows 7, 64bit.

If it is cheaper to build the computer, I can do that, but I'd need information on what I'd be buying. Portable accessories like a keyboard and mouse are not needed.

Let me know any specific computer or computer parts I should buy, or what I should be looking for.

At 800 dollars you can build your own computer. The most important aspects you'd want to worry about in terms of a computer that can run Skyrim is GPU, CPU, and RAM. How this will all run together for games like Skyrim also depends on how big your monitor is. The smaller it is, the less money you'll have to spend on better parts.

These days, ram is sold for next to nothing. Just do a search on slickdeals and you'll find deals everyday. Or you can just go to newegg or tigerdirect to buy ram there. As for a CPU, just stick a Intel i3 or i5 SB on your motherboard and you'll be good to go.

If you're looking to buy a pre-built computer, there's less configurations you can do but you'll avoid the hassle of having to build one. However, if you're building your own, you have complete control and knowledge of what goes in your computer. Shop around. I usually compare prices in the shopping cart among Amazon, Newegg, and Tigerdirect.

A word of advice if you're building your own: don't skimp out on vital parts such as the PSU or the motherboard.
