Will European power voltage blow up my Japanese camera?
Not sure HOW to ask this question. So here goes, I've recently purchased a new camera online, it's a Japanese (100v) version of Nikon D3000. I'm planning to take it with me when I move to Germany & France (230v). Will I need some sort of adapter in order for my camera to survive? Please be as specific as you can because I'm absolutely clueless. Thanks in advance!
You only need a converter to adapt the 2 flat prongs to two round ones. Or cut off the Japanese plug and attach a European one.
The Nikon battery charger & battery can handle the higher voltage just fine. Here's an image of the D3000 charger (for the EN-EL9a battery) with safety information... 220V is perfectly okay: http://static.photo.net/attachments/bboard/00M/00M3mn-37728384.jpg
That's pretty much the way all electronics work. Companies only make one version for world-wide sales and attach a different plug for each region. I've charged a range of electronic devices, including a Nikon dSLR, in over 30 countries, across 6 continents, and only ever had to change the plug. I've never yet required a power converter.

Measuring Current, Voltage and Power $218 This authoritative new book focuses on recent developments in the instrumentation for sending voltages and currents. The measurement of voltages and currents is a common task in the field of electricity and electronics.
