How can I get a good deal to Riviera Maya?

My buddy is having a wedding in Riviera Maya in August and I am in the wedding so I need to go. I tried to book t through the wedding planner and it cost $1450 pp from Philly. I keep hearing from other people that they did days in Riviera Maya for $800 and $900. Can anyone give me some advice on how I can find a good deal because I am lost!!

Your travel agent is your best bet, like the other answer. Are the prices you are quoting air/hotel? August is our high summer season here. We are busy with locals from the north of Mexico, South Americans and Italians.
Try looking for the web site of the hotel you are staying at,many times they will offers less expensive packages than you will find at travel sites. Is the wedding at an all inclusive hotel? If so than you will have to stay there as they will only let non guest in with the purchase of a day pass and this will not allow you to pass to the rooms and at many locations only until early evening.
If the hotel is not an all inclusive than you can look for a less expensive hotel and book there.
