My Heritage? (easy question)?
I am irish american and I am confused about some things. First of I have bright blonde hair and husky blue eyes that are pale/bright with a skye blue lining the outer rim. I am naturally skinny and i have pale skin with scarce freckles. Do I fit any irish stereo types? second of all I am methodist/Protestant on my daddy's side and catholic on my moms side I have bee told at all points in time they where irish religions some how. which one is Truly irish religions?
And yes Potato's are my favorite food. <3 But, that is only cause they taste so good!
lets get this straight i don't want to be something i am not. I am just proud of my heritage and i thought It would be nice to know if i am still apart of my irish family. you know you lose to much culture and you become distant from who you really are. I don't want that to happen.

You are sterotyping, which is a shame as you could very easily learn more by searching and reading some REAL facts about Ireland/Northern Ireland.
You ask about heritage...which is what you inherit.........from a resident Irish/NI perspective from me, you are typical of many Americans I have met (DAILY) who claim to be 'Irish Americans' who have a limited knowledge of what being Irish/NI means as they are born and brought up in America and have a romantic IDEA of Ireland/NI and what it supposed to be like because of the misinformation that has been passed down in the form of family stories and often added to and changed in transit over the generations, so it becomes so 'watered' down there is little reality left, watched too many films and listened to too many Americans who claim to know.
Many American's who's ancestors left Ireland/NI for a new and better life in America many years ago giving up their Irish Nationality and were happy to do that , they no longer wanted to be 'Irish' and many of these 'Irish' were not Irish but British anyway living in Ireland....and there are many reasons for that and it isn't always historic it is still happening
No, you do NOT fit ANY sterotypes of Irishness...mainly because there are no sterotypes of Irishness apart from in the many films made by the American film industry...E.g. Irish/Ni do not all have freckles, they do not all have pale skin.
Like with many countries religion's of all varieties exist, particularly in Ireland your are classed as a Protestant or Catholic....and if you are NOT Catholic ANY religion you are, the Irish class you as Protestant....regarless of if you are a Mormon, Buddist, Methodist, Chapel...they are all classed in Ireland/Ni as Protestants
There are three questions that any person you meet for the first time, in shops, in pubs, in most places
1. your name
2. where you live
3 what school you went to
All of these questions informs the questioner if you are Protestant or Catholic.which thankfully now is becoming less important but it was a life saver in the recent past, so they are questions based on fear.........as Protestants and Catholics did not mix, separate shops, schools, workplaces, communities...........outside of Ireland they mixed but NEVER in Ireland, until very recently and they are learning and beginning to trust and life is better for it.
Many who secretly dated, risked being killed, their families being terrorised, knee capped ( shot in the knee), so even until the last ten years the majority of mixed religious marriages meant they left Ireland/NI and many went to America, Britian or other countries, and many never returned even to visit because of the fears/threats to themselves and their families.
The land in Ireland is generally of poor quality, so potatoes can be grown in poor soil, they are quick to grow and cheap to grown and feed large families and because of the Catholic religious beliefs on 'family planning' it was/is generally the Catholics that had larger families, so potatoes fed the large poor family.
So if you are proud of ancestors who lived at one time in Ireland/NI then learn about reality, learn about history which 'could' then become your heritage, but it is not your heritage if you have no idea about it and are living on romantic views for films and 'Irish Amerian marketing'
Your heritage and culture is American...so you can't lose Irish culture and heritage as you never had it, however you can gain Irish Culture and heritage by learning about the reality of your Irish ancestors lives....which it seems you want to do
