Small Laptop

Is there any advantage of a tablet shaped computer over a small laptop shape?
I'm not talking about the software , just the shape and layout itself. I know Apple has some clever software etc. But it seems to me that a tablet shape is more cumbersome, although i've never actually owned one. Can someone fill me in?
Think clipboard. Imagine holding a clipboard. I'm not just talking the iPad... I'm talking the actual Windows TabletPCs that have been around since 2003... where you could whip out your Stylus and start writing... on your clipboard... or tablet.
Imagine how someone might stand up, with a small pile of folders in their arm, held so they can write on the top one.. and now imagine that pile is a tablet.
A true tablet with Stylus is a one handed operation. you don't type. You write.
I agree, that there are some cumbersome aspects to the iPad, as it is designed to emulate a keyboard when you need to enter data, meaning the tablet must be released onto a surface in order to enter information... but don't let that kill the idea of a true TabletPc in your mind.
