Need some seymour duncan guitar pick up help plzzz!?!?!?
Hi, so i have a 1989 epiphone les paul, and i'm looking to change the pickups. I want a heavier bridge sound but a softer neck pick up. I was thinking seymour invader for the bridge and an alnico II pro for the bridge. I want the neck to have a good acoustic sound as well as a warm heavier sound for soloing like sweet child o mine. Would these pickups be good together? are there any better combinations? Please help me. Thanks
I would not recommend Invaders. They are very dark, rather muddy/inarticulate. High output? Sure. Useful? Not so much, in my opinion.
My personal decision was to couple the Altnernative 8 in the bridge with Alnico II Pro pups in the neck. I get a great tone from both, one I think that works very well together... the pups really compliment each other. They're both Alnico, so they both have a bit of chime to them, the A2P's more so than the Alt8's.
I get a really good "Slash" lead tone out of the A2P's... those are an excellent choice in a neck pickup. They can hit a good *clean* sound, but for an acoustic sound you'd need to coil-tap them or EQ them right (I guess that would go without saying).
I love the Alt 8's. They are very high output, but have a lot of clarity to them. If you are familiar with the sound of the JB's, they are very similar, but the Alt 8's are a little higher output, and have a tighter low end, better for palm-muting power chords etc. They have a lot of clarity, even with lots of gain. What surprised me was how good the cleans were, and how nicely it transitioned to a nice heavy distorted sound... almost night and day... good times! Lots of mids, so great for pushing a tube amp, you'll need to use some EQ or the appropriate amp/pedal setup if you want the scooped metal sound though.
You might also want to consider the PATB-2 (parallel axis distortion trembucker), as that is really high output as well.
