How Do you Pick up a 1 month old baby while shes sitting down?
ie. in a carseat...Can you lift her by placing you hands carefully underneath her armpits like you would with older children, or do you have to place your hand up behind her back to support neck and head, as well as support her bottom? thanks
You have the right idea, you hook the baby under his/her arm in the crook of your dominate hand, thumb in front, fingers in back up to neck and head, palm to side and back. The non-dominate hand is under the bottom!
Do be careful when you are holding baby to keep one hand high in the back, they will sort of throw themselves backwards sometimes. I don't know why, but it is way dangerous!
When you can hold both baby's hands lifting up from laying down on back and baby has no problem maintaining head lift with body for a longer time you are safe to worry a little less about watching that head and neck on picking him/her up.
